Last Sunday, at 11pm, a masked gunman walked into a gay and lesbian youth centre in Tel Aviv, pulled out a pistol and opened fire. Nir Katz, a 26-year-old centre counsellor, and Liz Trubeshi, 17, were killed. Eleven others were injured, some seriously.
The murderer fled into the night, motive unknown, and has not been apprehended. However, given the nature of the centre and its location in an inconspicuous basement, it is unlikely he walked in by chance. It is safe to assume that he knew where he was going.
The carnage rocked Israel's gay community. They asked how it could have happened, then came up with answers.
